How to Sell and Issue Gift Cards

This guide shows the gift card product customers buy, how to issue a gift card to a customer without emailing it, and how to deactivate a gift card.

In your Shopify admin, click Products.
Open your gift card product. Customers buy it like any other product.
Its variants set the amounts customers can choose, here $25, $50 and $100.
To issue a gift card yourself, click Gift cards, then Create gift card.
Enter the Initial value, such as 25.00.
Under Customer, search for and pick the customer.
Leave Send gift card now unticked if you don't want to email it yet.
Click Save.
The new gift card shows its code and balance. You can send it to the customer later.
To stop a gift card from being used, click Deactivate and confirm.
The card now shows as Deactivated. This can't be undone.
